Welcome to THE BLOG!

Welcome to the blog everyone!

I suppose I should introduce myself. My name is Garrett and I have an interest in talking about just about everything and it's complimented by an outrageous case of Attention deficiet disorder. It can be a bummer, but hey, at least I always have something to think about. Too many things generally. I don't think I could honestly have a blog that is anything close to a specific topic or pinpointed issue.......so I wont! This will be about anything and everything I feel like pointing my limited attention at!

Anyhow, back on point, I live in Wisconsin with my wife and kids and as of right now, I am unemployed. It seems to be a growing trend, so at least I fit in! I actually don't read blogs much at all, so this is going to be a bit of a process to get use to. In fact, I could likely count on one of my fingers how many times I went out of my way to read a blog. Either way, I will get this site up to par, and definitely make it user friendly so people can voice their opinions whether it agrees with me, or hates my guts haha.

This is not the latest post, but I'll leave it up here for a while just to say "hi" and "welcome" to everyone. Enjoy the blog.

Enjoy!

P.S. Please keep in mind that this is a huge WORK IN PROGRESS. I am slowly getting it up to par in the next couple of weeks.

Hot weather + pool + wisconsin water = brilliantly heated disaster!

Posted by Garrett on June 08th, 2012  •  Comments

So today turned out to be quite hot, which is nice because it sure beats the snow we beer loving Wisconsinites see all too often. I thought I would take advantage of the weather and fill up the small inflatable pool in the backyard for the kids. Seems innocent enough right? WRONG! I am always bothered about how cold the hose water is, and I honestly wish they would just make a hot and cold option on these things! Yes it would only make sense for like maybe 8 weeks at the most, but just because it is over 80 degrees outside doesn't mean the kid's pool water has to be ice cold. So I, the loving dad that I am, sparked some inspiration thanks to some Wisconsin water (beer), came up with a great idea, spaced out on something shinny for a minute or two, then snapped back to reality and jumped into action! If my hose doesn’t have a hot or cold option, bring the hose to something that does. So that is exactly what I did:

I unwound and unhooked my hose outside, dragged it downstairs and hooked it up to my utility sink. It fit! So far, the plan was going well.

I turned on the hot water, made sure the other end came out in the pool, and success!!!!

Well.... It kind of was a success. See, like most of my self proclaimed brilliant ideas, I was so happy that I had the idea that I didn't consider the entire situation. For example, if your sink dispenses water very rapidly, but your hose opening is considerably smaller, then water pressure rises and there has to be some form of give somewhere. In this case, it was my sink valve. I walked downstairs after about 45 minutes of constant hose flow, to find that I apparently owned a second swimming pool that was formerly known as my utility room. All is well though because I quickly consulted the assistance of towels, said farewell to the boxes of clutter which I had mixed feelings about to begin with, and alleviated the situation.

In the end, everyone won. My kids enjoyed a nice heated pool to splash in on a beautiful day, my wife won because she has been on me about cleaning that room for months and I......I don't quite know how I won yet, but I plan to improve my chances at a positive outlook later on with more Wisconsin water. I'm sure that will yield some kind of results of some kind. Either way, i'll keep everyone posted!

Yesterday I voted - But Why?

Posted by Garrett on June 06th, 2012  •  Comments

Yesterday was June 5th here in Wisconsin (and other areas I’m sure) so I am guessing people know why I had to go out and vote. The problem for me was that I was so conflicted! I Honestly don't like any of the candidates! I didn’t when we first voted for either Barrett and Walker and I still don’t now. I knew when I left the house that my vote, which wasn't for walker, wasn't going to end up achieving anything. News Polls across every platform, be it the web, TV or newspapers showed that Barrett had little to no chance of success. Now, I personally don't like the concept of "a wasted vote," which to me refers to a negative view towards voting with your heart and morals despite knowing full well that your chosen candidate has no chance of actually winning. As an example I reference Ron Paul. I voted for him, knowing full well that my chosen candidate will have no chance to win, yet I still wanted to follow my gut and go with who I thought was best. Is that a waste to me? Never. Many people resign themselves to feeling that their vote is a waste unless they choose the popular option. News organizations don’t help this at all, because within any given hour, they have a small army of Polls or “special analysts” that are armed and ready to convince you that if you don’t vote for the guys that they have chosen to devote hours of coverage to, that you are wasting your time. Even many people I know have stated that they actually don’t like the candidate they are voting for, but he is, “their only chance to win over the opposition.” In all honesty, that wasn’t a real quote. I sugar coated it to leave names out because that is going to divert this little rant elsewhere and God knows it’s easy enough for me to do that already. Anyways, why elect the same damn thing just under guise of a different title? It’s like saying that I don’t want to be slain by a sword, so i’m voting for the battle axe. It still sucks either way!

Back to the point I wanted to make: Why bother voting? Here is why I left my home, waited in line for 30 minutes, got the “I voted today” sticker, threw it away and came home to work on my blog. It’s because if I didn’t at least put my vote and opinion out there, I wouldn’t have the merit to bitch and whine about any of the parties screwing everything up in the future. If I can’t say I at least tried to cast a vote, that would make me look just plain silly. Now I am self empowered to act on my new found sense of entitlement.  My first act: EXHIBIT A!
